Welcome to the memorial page for

Mildred Cyr

July 1, 2017

September 26, 1937 - July 1 ,2017
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce Mildred's passing on July 1, 2017 at the age of 79.  Her two sisters, daughter and son-in-law were by her side.  Millie was born and lived in nGeraldton her entire life, with the exception of 2 years in Montreal during the mid 1960's.  Her claim to fame was that she was the first baby born in Geraldton when it became incorporated in 1937.  She worked in a clothing factory while in Montreal, a Bell operator upon returning to Geraldton until it closed and then at the high school as a member of the custodial staff.  She was an avid knitter, sewer, tried her hand at quilting, with great success, and enjoyed gardening. When the grandkids and nieces were young she enjoyed making  gingerbread houses at Christmas for them to destroy and eat in mere minutes.  Many summers and winter days were spent at camp on Wildgoose Lake with family and friends.  Her one big adventure was in 1978 when she went to Finland with her sister Margaret.  She took several vacations within Canada that took her to both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.  She was predeceased by her parents John and Irene Penttila, her husband Raoul, her sister Marian Magee and her son James.  She will be greatly missed by her daughter Jackie Gordon (Thunder Bay), son-in-law Rick and their children Cynthia (Thunder Bay), Richard and Trevor (both of Surrey, BC) her son Leonard (London), his fiance Darlene MacIntosh and his children Andrea Whiting (Chris) (Oakville), Amanda Kloepfer (Ryan) (Thunder Bay) and Alaina Cyr (Mike Rancic) (Toronto); daughter-in-law Lori Cyr (James) (Geraldton) and their children Melissa Klages (Kris) (Thunder Bay) and Jaime Murray (Kevin) (Egmondville).  She is great grandma to Kaye (Tokyo), Charlotte and Madelynn (Thunder Bay), Ryleigh (Egmondville) and brand new to the family Asher (Oakville).  She will also be missed by her sisters Margaret Magee, Maizie Christensen, brother Milton Penttila, sister-in-law Suzie, many nieces, nephews and daughter-in-law Dianne Cyr.  Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held at 10:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at Fawcett Funeral Home on Friday, July 7 , 2017. Pastor Woods will be officiating. Internment for both Millie and Raoul will take place after memorial service at Pinegrove Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
