It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vel (Velma) Baillargeon after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Woodstock, Ontario, she moved to Longlac in 1972 where she soon began her family. In 1995, she met the love of her life and shortly thereafter, they joined their families and began their adventures together.
Vel will be greatly missed by her husband Denis Baillargeon, her three boys Mitch (Melissa), Terry (Tammy) and Alan (Amber) Ouellet, as well as her four step children Nathalie (Kenny), Eric (Line), Christiane (Ron) and Yanick (Crystal) Baillargeon.
Vel was very active in her community and church. She took great pride in being a member of the Catholic Women’s League and preparing the alter for weekly mass for well over a decade.
She built great relationships during her time working in public service and ultimately found her career helping run the family business as Office Manager of Denis Baillargeon Incorporated for 29 years. Vel also enjoyed working in the field and took great pride in her knowledge of the industry and playing her part in running a successful business in our region.
Living a life of adventure, she enjoyed motorcycle trips with close friends and travelling to hot country destinations. Gatherings with friends and family were always a source of true happiness for Vel.
Above all, there was no truer source of pride than spending time with her grandchildren Jessica (Martin), Dylan (Dakota), Jamie (Adam), Hannah (Blake), Erica (Jonathan) Adalie, Alison, Danielle, Odin as well as her great grandchildren: Romeo, Raphael, Hugo, Reyna and Jasper.
Vel is pre-deceased by her parents Douglas and Vera Bragg of Woodstock, Ontario and survived by her sister Phylis Woods (Bob) of Bear River, Nova Scotia.
The family would like to thank the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center, and the doctors and nurses in 2B for their care, compassion and patience with our family. We would also like to thank the Geraldton District hospital for their incredible care and compassion.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Longlac.
