Elchuk, Anne

It is with heavy hearts that family  announces the peaceful passing of Anne Elchuk (nee Ptasznik aka Peters) in Geraldton, Ontario on November 11, 2017, at the age of 86.

Anne is survived by her sister, Elsie Neumueller (Peters) of Geraldton and brother, Stephen Peters (Bridget) of Thunder Bay, Ontario.  Nieces and nephews:  Stephanie Zuke (Stan) (daughter Stephanie) of Campbell River, B.C.; Paulanne MacPhail (Dale Carrier), son Christopher of Longlac, Ontario;   Joe Neumueller (Suzanne) (children; Brenda, Kurtis and Amy) of Thunder Bay, Ontario;   Debbie Anzinger McKay (Jeff) son Kyle of Sudbury, Ontario;  Karen Peters (Manly) of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Marc Peters of Alberta as well as many others.

Anne was predeceased by her sister, Olga Anzinger; her parents Josephine and Stephen Peters;  and brothers-in-law Siegfried Neumueller and Albert Anzinger.

Born in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay, Ontario) on January 22, 1931,  the Peters family moved to Geraldton in  mid 1930 where she grew up attending Geraldton Public School  making many friends along the way.

Anne was a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133.  She had been very active in the Ladies Auxiliary, serving as past President.  She was also actively involved with the Geraldton Cemetery Committee and the Hospital Auxiliary.   She enjoyed travelling in her early years, making trips to Aruba, Cuba and Barbados to name a few.   She also enjoyed attending the dart club at the local Legion.  Always very artistically gifted, she opened her own flower shop and gift store, Jo-Annes Flower Boutique in  early 1960 where she remained until she retired in 1994.

Anne will most be remembered for her love of cooking.   She would spend many hours in her kitchen making traditional Ukrainian Pedaheh (pierogi) and Holopchi (cabbage rolls), meat pies and an array of deserts and pies, which she would  generously donate to various charities or just feed friends and family.

She loved her little town with a “heart of gold”.   Being one of the pioneers of the town,  Anne always had a story to tell about the good old days.   Some of the memories she shared live on and can be seen if visiting the Geraldton Interpretative Centre.

She will be dearly missed by family and friends and her beloved rescue cat Mr. Kitty.

Donations in Anne’s memory can be made to the Geraldton District Hospital, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 or Want-a-Pet, Greenstone Helping Paws.

Please join the family for a celebration of Anne’s life on December 9, 2017 at 11:00am at Fawcett Funeral Home with a light lunch to follow.
