John Gary Mackie (Tubby)

August 22, 1938 - October 17, 2018

 

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of a beloved husband and father John Gary Mackie at home on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Tubby is the son of the late John and late Alice Mackie (Nee Barrett). Gary is survived by his loving wife of 58+ years Cecelia Mackie (Krosloski) and his children Gerald (Paulette), Dennis (Marie), Donna MacInnis (Ian), Robert (Cindy) and Lori Mincone (Antonello). Proud grandfather to Brianne, Andrea, Karson, Deidre, Mariah, Courtney, R.J., Avery, Austin and Ariana. Great-grandfather to Kayden, Gavin, Collin, Liam, Aria, Lexi and Zayla. He is also survived by his brother Keith Mackie (Shirley). Tubby had an exemplary career with both CN and VIA Rail for 48 years. Served as President of the Seperate School Baord from 1967 to 1976, President of Minor Hockey from 1970 to 1978 during which time the league hosted many celebrity hockey players such as Darryl Sittler, Steve Payne, Ron Zanussi, Dale Talon, Lee Fogolin, Bruce Boudreau, Paul Harrison and Ed Hospidar. Proud recipient of the Minor Hockey Award 1975, King Krystia Award 1976. Tubby had a wonderful sense of humour which has been passed on equally to his children and grandchildren alike. Dad's love for his family was foremost in his life. He enjoyed hockey, baseball, cards and a limeric or two. He will remain forever in our hearts as the BEST Husband, Father and Papa. Friends will be received at the Holy Name of Jesus R.C. Church (Hornepayne) on Saturday, October 27th from 10:00am to 11:00am. A funeral mass will be held at  the Holy Name of Jesus R.C. Church (Hornepayne) on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00am with Roger Pronovost, Priest, officiating. The interment will be held at the Hornepayne Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Hornepayne Community Hospital or to the Holy Name of Jesus Parish.
