Amelia (Milly) Nellie Hatchard, 92, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023, at the John Owens Evans Residence in Geraldton, Ontario.
Milly was born on October 6, 1930, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to George & Sophie Dzengle who immigrated to Canada from Ukraine in the early 1920’s. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother William Dzengle and survived by sister Helen Kibsey.
Milly was married to Warren Hatchard (1923-1994) in October 1954 and had three children, Claudine Leuenberger (Malcolm Leuenberger (1955-2019), Nadine Jors (Rolf Jors) and Warner Hatchard, all of whom she is survived by.
Milly will be deeply missed by her four grandchildren: Bryanne Leuenberger, Brandy Leuenberger-Lenihan, Brandon Leuenberger and Deidre Aubry; and three great-grand children: Tayven Francis, Breccan Lenihan and Declan Leuenberger.
Milly was an active member of the Nakina community throughout her life. She was the quintessential home-maker and shared her love of cooking and the Ukrainian culture with her children and grandchildren. Milly truly loved nature and spent summers at her beautiful cottage, ‘Golden Pond’, at Twin Lakes, making memories with her grandchildren. For the last eight years she lived comfortably at the long-term care residence in Geraldton with countless visits from her devoted daughter Claudine. She will be profoundly missed, but will forever live on in our hearts as we walk down Memory Lane.
