Annie Rose Groulx (Kendall)
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of our Loving Mother, and grandmother, Annie Rose Groulx (Mechanic Annie or Trapper Annie) who received her Angel wings in her sleep, on June 7th, 2021. Predeceased by her Mother and Father Bernadette and Abraham Groulx, Daughter Lea Ann Kendall, and ex-husband Robert Guy Kendall. Mom will be greatly missed by her sons AJ and Joe (Rodney), grandsons Joseph and Anthony, Sister Laurette (Norman), Brother Robert, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Mom was born in Foleyet, Ontario, and lived in Hornepayne for several years prior to relocating to Geraldton, Ontario after marrying dad Robert Guy Kendall on August 9, 1969. She resided in Geraldton for many years, prior to returning to Hornepayne in 1993, holding many positions ranging from a loving Mother and wife, a Personal Support Worker with RedCross for many years, foster parent, trapper, taxi driver, high school custodian, to being the first woman gold miner to go underground in Ontario at RoxMark Mines, located just West of Geraldton. She was essentially a jack-of-all-trades and master of many!
She most certainly did not let being a woman hold her back from anything. Her stubbornness and willingness to try new things was her main drive over her lifetime.
Moms’ hobbies included, but were not limited to fishing, hunting, auto mechanics, and in the last 20+ years, an active fur bearing animal trapper in Hornepayne, whom she taught the art of trapping and skinning to many, and earned many trapping awards.
She was a proud member of the Hornepayne Legion Branch 194, Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 194 holding an executive position and position of Sargent of Arms and later joining the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 173 in Hearst, Ontario.
A graveside service by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 173 was held with family present, with interment taking place at Hornepayne Cemetery in Hornepayne, Ontario on June 12th, 2021, where mom was laid to eternal rest beside her Mother, Bernadette Groulx.
