Mr. Jean Marc (Mackie) Lafortune
The family announces with great sorrow his death at the Geraldton Hospital on Sept. 17th, 2023 at the age of 70 years. Beloved husband of Ingrid Lafortune and dearest father of Jennifer Cloutier (Calvin) (Longlac, Ont.) and Jeff Lafortune (Elizabeth) (Capreol, Ont.). He is survived by his sister, Madeleine House and brothers Andre, Rene and Bernard. He will be sadly missed by his four grand children: Amelia, Emmett, Connor, and Bryce.
Jean Marc or Mackie as he was better known, grew up in Blind River Ontario. He later moved to the Chapleau area (Kormak), where he found work in the forestry industry. It was there he met and married his wife Ingrid. There they had their first child Jeff, before finally moving to Caramat, Ontario. It was here that they had their daughter Jennifer. Along with his wife he spent forty plus years in Caramat, living and raising his family. He was well known in both Caramat and the Longlac area. Always willing to give a helping hand and never shy to express how he felt about things. He lived a simple life, providing for his wife and kids. And while never being able to obtain many of the finer things in life, he very proudly provided for his family with all they needed. He always showed a great deal of pride in what he "did" have, with everything being in tip top shape and well maintained. He showed a great deal of ingenuity in making what he had work. He was always tinkering and improving things. He would create things out of spare parts to do what he needed. Nothing came easy to Mackie and Ingrid over the years and they both fought daily to hang onto what they had, all while making sure their kids had all they needed to succeed. In recent years Mackie found himself in a different kind of fight. A fight with an incurable form of lung disease. He fought gallantly until he knew his family was going to be ok, only then did he allow himself to succumb to what he knew he could not beat. He will be forever remembered by close friends and family as the friendly guy, that had a tool for every job and was always willing to help. He will be remembered by his kids, as the strongest man they've ever known. As the guy with the grumpy gritty exterior, that never showed his emotions. While at the same time and in his own way he made sure, they'll always know how truly proud he was of them and how much he loved them. All without ever really saying it!
From your kids:
Breath easy now dad. You're done fighting. You've fought enough. You've done enough. We're gonna be ok!! Abby too! Be at peace where ever you are and know that we'll love and miss you forever. Love, Jeff and Jen
