After a lengthy illness, it is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of long-time Geraldton resident, John Joseph Marino on February 22, 2022, at the Ottawa General Hospital. He was born July 7, 1951, to Joseph and Dorothy Joan Marino in the old Errington Ashmore hospital.
John dedicated his life to servicing his community as one of the proprietors of Marino Hardware, a proud member of the Geraldton Volunteer Fire Department for forty-one years, twenty-four of which he served as Fire Chief, and as municipal councillor. His girls were his main priority.
A heartfelt thank you to the health care workers at the Ottawa General Hospital where John spent the last four months, specifically the hematology team led by Dr. Huebsch, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Atkins and the amazing nurses on 5 West. Their compassion and thoughtfulness extended to John and the family was appreciated and will be remembered fondly. Thank you also to the team on 1A at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, for the excellent care while there, led primarily by Dr. Laferrier and Carol Murray.
Left to mourn are his wife Chereyl, daughters Angie (Scott) Jessiman, and Kyla, grandchildren Liam and Abby Jessiman, brothers Michael, Ted, Peter (Pat), and Jim, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Joan, father Joseph, sister Rose Marie, brother- in- law Don Abraham and sister- in- law Brenda Abraham.
Cremation has taken place and internment will be at Pinegrove Cemetery in Geraldton.
Friends will be received at Fawcett Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm with funeral service to follow at 2:00pm at Fawcett Funeral Home
