Luigia Dalcin, nee Bin
The family announces with sorrow her death at the Hornepayne Community Long Term Centre on February 8 at the age of 96. She was born on November 5, 1926 in Cappella Maggiore, Italy, the 3rd of 12 siblings. Luigia is the widowed spouse of Salvatore Dalcin who died in a workplace accident in 1972. She is survived by 4 siblings: Agostino Bin (Angela) in Hornepayne Ontario, Giovanni Bin in Italy, Antonio Bin in Germany and Lena Serafon in Italy; by her 3 sons, Angelo Dalcin (Lynne) in Airdrie, Alberta, Giorgio Dalcin in Hornepayne, Ontario and Remigio Dalcin (Nel) in Hornepayne, Ontario; by 10 grandchildren and by 12 Great Grandchildren.
Luigia's husband came to Canada and she followed 6 months later with 2 children making the trip from Italy to Hornepayne Ontario in 1953. At the time she only spoke Italian and French. They built a home in Hornepayne and modernized it over time. During her time in Hornepayne she became well known as a talented seamstress, volunteer at the Hornepayne Hospital, Senior's Club, tended the flowers at the 3 bears, played broomball, and was a cook at Haavalshrud's. She was a woman of faith and was active in the CWL. She always went out of her way to help and frankly cater to her children, and grandchildren. She loved her time at the cottage gardening, fishing, and having company. She travelled extensively, but in later years her health started failing. She moved into the Long Term Unit in Hornepayne in 2012 and was often telling her children how well the staff at the hospital cared for her. She died peacefully with Giorgio at her side.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am on Saturday February 18, 2023 with a funeral mass at 11am on Saturday February 18th at the Holy Name of Jesus church. Luncheon at Calvary Gospel Church following the Mass.
