Obituary

MARIA HAGNER (NEE FISCHER)

The family announces with sorrow her passing at the John Owen Evans Residence on March 26, 2022 at the age of 92. Beloved mother or Gord Hagner (Bertha), Yvonne Taphorn (Lloyd) and Helen Dallaire. She is survived by her youngest brother Otto Fischer of Germany. She will be sadly missed by 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren: George and his daughter Andromeda; Julie (Brook) and their children Charlotte, Jack and Jessie; Vicki; Duane (Stephanie) and their children Ariel and Erik; and Derek (Whitney). She is pre-deceased by her husband Wilhelm Hagner; her parents Josef & Helene Fischer; her in-laws Wilhelm & Viktoria Hagner; her sisters Gertrud Erhard and Elfriede Fritsch; her brothers Adolf Fischer and Albert Fischer; and her daughter-in-law Bonnie (Duvall) Hagner.

Maria came to Canada in 1953 to join Willi. They settled in Geraldton to start their family. Maria worked at the Geraldton District Hospital from March 1965 to September 1992. In her spare time she would help out the horticultural society planting flowers outside the hospital and at the Geraldton welcome sign. She also would help out at the Anglican church making perogies. Maria loved to crochet, knit and various other crafts. Her true love was her garden. She would spend hours in her garden perfecting it every year. Maria had a love for animals. She always had a cat or two that she rescued. A special thanks goes out to Dr. Zufelt and the Geraldton District Hospital staff for taking good care of our mother (Oma) for the last ten years.

HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST

God looked around his garden

and found an empty space.

Then He looked down upon this earth

and saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you

and lifted you to rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful.

He only takes the best.
