It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mike on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Mike was born on March 8, 1940 in Sudbury, Ontario to Don & Rita McCool. He was raised in Sudbury and attended St. Paul’s Elementary School and graduated from St. Charles College.
Mike is survived by his wife Suzanne of 62 years, his daughter Kimberly (Kenny) of Sudbury, and his son’s Michael of Thunder Bay and Jason (Natasha) of Kirkland Lake. He will be missed by his granddaughter McKenna, his grandson Jace of Kirkland Lake, his sister Claire Schonfeldt (Terry) of Kirkland Lake, his brother Danny McCool (Mary) of Bethleham, P.A. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mike was predeceased by his parents Don & Rita, his brothers David and Raymond, brother-in-law Billy and sister-in-law Joan.
Mike worked for CN on the signal and communications as a signal maintainer for 43 years. Mike had many passions, besides his family and friends, he loved playing the guitar, gave lessons and formed a band that played for many dances, weddings and parties. He was a scout leader, volunteer firefighter for 30 years, 25 of those years as Fire Chief. He was a member of many organizations and committees, currently president of the legion and a reader at the church. He would volunteer and lend a helping hand to anyone.
His summer months were spent at camp that he built, always working on something and keeping track of all the other campers.
A special thank you to the truck driver , the police and the Nipigon Ambulance that came to my rescue, and to the Beardmore Fire Chief that was kind enough to drive me home.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Brigid R.C Church in Nakina on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00am. For those wishing, memorial donations may be made to the Nakina Medical Clinic, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to St. Brigid R.C Church.
