Phyllis Isobel Manuel (nee Braye)
With heavy hearts we are all saddened to announce the passing of our Mother, Nanny, Great-
Nan, and sister Phyllis Isobel Manuel (nee Braye).
Phyllis was born March 25th, 1927 in Corner Brooke, NFLD and surrounded by family received
her wings peacefully at Wilson Memorial Hospital October 27th, 2021. She will be forever
cherished and remembered by her two boys Rick (Suzanne) and Jerry (Della); Grandchildren
Dean (Tracy), Nicole (Ian), Rikki-Lee (Kevin), Jerri-Rae (Evan); and Great-Grandchildren; Drew,
Georgia, Morgan, Avery, Payton, Brynn and James. She will be missed by her siblings Jack,
Edward, Robert and Lorraine as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years Ernest Manuel, Grandson Courtney, Great-Grandson
McAuley, Brother Rex, and Sisters Elizabeth, Jean, and Barbara.
Phyllis began her adventure in Marathon in 1948 to accompany Ernie and start her family. She
was loved and adored by everyone she met. She was a Marathon pioneer known famously as
“Nanny” who devoted her life to her husband, family and friendships. Known for her sewing
and knitting skills she also enjoyed spending endless hours crafting and doing wood working
with Ernie. In her later years she was blessed with her extended A & W family that adored her.
Her quick wit always brought laughter to those around her and her singing voice and memory
of songs and hymns will be tremendously missed by friends and staff at the Peninsula Manor.
At her request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers a donation to a charity of your choice
in her memory would be gratefully appreciated.
Rest in Peace Nan. You will be always loved, forever missed and never forgotten.
“Those we love
Don’t go away,
They walk beside
Us every day,
Unseen,
Unheard,
But always near,
Still loved,
Still missed and
very dear.”
