ROSS HOUGHTON
The family announces with sorrow the passing of Ross Houghton at the Geraldton District Hospital on April 8, 2023, at the age of 74 years, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was supported and surrounded by several of his loving family members in his final moments.
The beloved husband of the late Cathy and dearest father of Raymond (Rowena) and Dawn. He is survived by Graham (Hélène) and Murray (Linda). Ross will be sadly missed by his three grandchildren (Mya, Marcus and Charlize) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers (Warren and Frank).
Ross Houghton knew a thing or two about growing potatoes. Once he resettled on his old family homestead, he cultivated the land and Ross’s bountiful harvests were shared with and enjoyed by many Greenstone, Thunder Bay and Lindsay people alike.
The majority of Ross’s working career was spent deep in the woodlands as a heavy duty mechanic and then afterwards as an entrepreneur in woodlands harvesting, for Kimberly Clark of Canada.
He loved his family wholeheartedly and expressed this love and appreciation to his family and friends in his final days. Ross thoroughly enjoyed coffee chats with the boys. He often shared anecdotes about these experiences with Raymond and Dawn. During the summer months, you would find Captain Ross on his pontoon boat with family and friends. He always looked forward to attending the annual Kenogamisis Lake fish derby with his brothers and nephew. Ross was passionate about preserving the history of Geraldton. He volunteered countless hours with Geraldton’s 75th Anniversary and was continually sharing information on the Geraldton Past and Present Facebook page. He was proud to call the friendly town with a Heart of Gold his home.
Friends will be received at Fawcett Funeral Home on Saturday April 15th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
