Yvon Roy

It comes with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved Yvon Roy. Yvon passed on March 9th, 2023 in the early morning at the age of 91. He was very loved and cherished by his family and all the people he impacted in the community. 

Yvon joined his wife Anita but is survived by his three children Nancy (Jean-Guy), Linette, Daniel. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Tammy (Dany), Sylvain (Suzanne), Chloé, Charles, Francis (Briana), by his great grand children Bradley (Alexandria), Kelsy (Louka), Matty (Camille), Christopher, Tyler, Alyssa, Michael, Theo and by his great great grandchildren Paisley, Nixon and Benson. 

Yvon was born in St-Côme Quebec in 1931 and later moved to Theresa Mine to work and raise his children. He later moved to Longlac and worked at Weldwood until he retired. After his long career he spent hours in the garage fixing and rebuilding old cars. He always had a new project in mind and you could always find them at the yearly show and shine. He shared his love for cross-country skiing with the community of Longlac by spending countless hours grooming the trails and welcoming families into the club. If you learnt to ski in Longlac, there’s a big chance he showed you how. Towards the end of his life, Yvon loved spending time rocking his great great grand children and telling you stories about his days at the mine. He will truly be missed and never forgotten.

C'est avec une grande tristesse que la famille annonce le décès de leur bien-aimé Yvon Roy. Yvon est décédé le 9 mars 2023 au petit matin à l'âge de 91 ans. Il était très aimé par sa famille et toutes les personnes qu'il a côtoyées dans la communauté.

Yvon a rejoint son épouse Anita et laisse dans le deuil ses trois enfants, Nancy (Jean-Guy), Linette et Daniel. Il manquera beaucoup à ses petits-enfants Tammy (Dany), Sylvain (Suzanne), Chloé, Charles, Francis (Briana), à ses arrière-petits-enfants Bradley (Alexandria), Kelsy (Louka), Matty (Camille), Christopher, Tyler, Alyssa, Michael, Theo et à ses arrières arrières-petits-enfants Paisley, Nixon et Benson.

Yvon est né à Saint-Côme, au Québec, en 1931. Il a ensuite déménagé à Theresa Mine pour travailler et élever ses enfants. Il a ensuite déménagé à Longlac et a travaillé à Welwood jusqu'à sa retraite. Après sa longue carrière, il a passé de longues heures dans le garage à réparer et à reconstruire de vieilles voitures. Il avait toujours un nouveau projet en tête et on pouvait toujours le trouver à l'exposition annuelle au Summerfest. Il a partagé son amour du ski de fond avec la communauté de Longlac en passant d'innombrables heures à entretenir les pistes et à accueillir les familles au sein du club. Si vous avez appris à skier à Longlac, il y a de fortes chances qu'il vous ait montré comment faire. Vers la fin de sa vie, Yvon aimait passer du temps à bercer ses arrière-arrière-petits-enfants et à leur raconter des histoires sur ses journées à la mine. Il nous manquera vraiment et nous ne l'oublierons jamais.
