Mike's passing moved me to relive some of the fond memories of our time together in 5 Sqn. I5 Sqn. changed our lives. It was where we grew up. Most of us joined to get away from something and not really to make a career of the army. Or maybe it was a sense of adventure that took us to 5 Sqn. It was where we shared the good and the bad of living together in a tightly controlled environment. It was clear what the rules were and what the consequences were if you got caught breaking them. It was where we grew up. Where we learned to trust our comrades and to rely on each other. Mike played a big part in our experiences. He was loyal, reliable, a good friend, and companion, willing to help out and always his wry smile and whit. He was one of the good guys. One who was remembered by my parents who often asked about Mike. Those of us who served with Mike will continue to remember him and feel his loss.

It was with great sadness that I heard about Mike's passing.
I was his Troop Leader for his first six months in the Sigs Apprentices. He was indeed a "gentle giant". Another one of the "GOOD ONES" has left us must to soon.
My condolences to his entire family.

I am sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Mike and I went through the Signal Apprentices
together in 62 to 64 ( I was in a different troop tho). After that, we went our separate paths
in our postings. It was very interesting to read about his family and post-military life. I am
glad he had a good life. My condolences to his family for their loss. .

I was in the same troop as Mike in 1962 and judging from his picture he had not changed much in 55 years and from the comments his personality was the same - kind, considerate and funny. My condolence to his family

As with others who started their carrers as a signalman apprentice, I shared in a lot of the activities that included Mike and the rest of us, collectively during our two years at Vimy Barracks. It was rough for me during that time, but Mike helped me overcome some emotional hurdles and I found strength in his friendship. But after our two years were up, like most of us, we went our separate ways.***** But folks.......this is not the end for Mike, nor is it for any of us. For those loved ones left behind, understand that we are all in transition. Death of the body is not death of the Spirit. Mike has just moved on........just as we all will in due course. RM

First Mike in 1963, BB1 Vimy Barracks, Kingston. A big lad but soft spoken. He was a gentleman then and still the same person when we met again in 1984 at CFB Borden. We will meet in the well again between BB1 and BB2 when the time comes Mike save us a place. My sincerest condolences to those left behind. I can understand how deeply he will be missed - VVV

Mike and I were in the army as Signals Apprentices together from 1962 to '64. We became good friends and had lots of good times together...the best of which I will not talk about. Unfortunately, we went our separate ways after the Apprentices, but it's good to know that Mike had a long and distinguished career. My condolences to all the family.
